… two people fell in
love. Just like you. While falling in love does ‘just happen’, staying
in love never happens by itself. Love is simple but it is not easy. To
be a special Valentine to your partner takes lots of energy, time,
attention and love. If one of your goals this year is your relationship
with your partner then Valentine’s Day is a great day to start.
Relationships don’t magically happen. Love is merely an empty concept
unless you bring it alive through action. Sound familiar. Goals realized
equals action. Love realized equals action. What can you do to create a
healthy and successful relationship? If some form of romance is not on
your To Do list, you may want to re-evaluate your priorities.
I can almost hear you saying that you aren’t the romantic type. I don’t
believe you because ‘once upon a time, two people fell in love’. Romance
is not just flowers and chocolate. Romance is about expressing your love
in lots of little ways all year long. Here are a few ideas to get you
started!
• Remember the little things. Respect your partner by paying attention.
Be aware when your partner's likes and dislikes. Notice what makes them
happy and deliver more of that.
• Hearing and listening are very, very different! Hearing is automatic
(you even hear things in your sleep) while listening requires conscious
choice. Listening is a gift of love you give to your partner.
• Do you know what your partner’s romantic dreams are? Daydream. Think.
Act. Don’t wait. Do something that you said you would do in the past,
but you both have been putting off or making excuses about.
• What happened to just having fun together? Lighten up. Release your
sense of humor. Have fun with love.
• Get back to romance. Slow dancing by candlelight or in the backyard in
the moonlight may be obvious…but how about in the kitchen with a
favorite tune playing. Be sensitive to the romantic needs of your lover.
Indulge each other's desires.
• Have you been listening? Offer breakfast in bed or some other surprise
your partner might like. Be creative. Plan. Make it very special.
• Reconnect. Every meal doesn’t need to be ‘romantic’, but every meal
can be an opportunity to talk, share and listen.
• Love with all your heart and soul. Always remember to say, "I love
you". Express love in new and exciting ways.
• Love speaks with action. Many times romance and love are in the little
things. Do one of your partner’s chores … like going to the grocery
store … with the kids … then pick out flowers or a card to bring home
with the groceries. Just because.
Still romantically impaired? I highly recommend, “1001 Ways to Be
Romantic” by Gregory Godek. You will find a wealth of ideas that will
come naturally to you as you get your creative juices flowing.
If love is really your top priority, then you never really ‘sacrifice’
for it. When it comes to love, the secret is that there is no secret.
Simply express love to turn your relationship into a love affair.
Life is too short not to be romantic. Live your love.
You are what you believe. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
